Fruits of Feeding the Hungry

Feeding people in general and a hungry person in particular has been explicitly mentioned in the command of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah exalt his mention). Abu Moosa Al-Ash‘ari (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah exalt his mention) said: “Feed the hungry, pay a visit to the sick and free the captives.” [Saheeh] A reported saying reads, “The best charity is to satisfy a hungry person.” Alas, a Muslim may sit at an Iftar table with delicious and tasty dishes while his neighbors break their fast with a few morsels of food, if they can be found!

Muhammad in the Bible

A prophet like unto Moses. There were hardly any two prophets, who were so much alike as Moses and Muhammad. Both were given comprehensive law code of life, both encountered their enemies and were victors in miraculous ways, both were accepted as prophets/statesmen and both migrated following conspiracies to assassinate them. Analogies between Moses and Jesus overlooks not only the above similarities but

Even a Smile is Charity: A Life Example

Muslims are also commanded to perform da`wah (calling others to Islam). I recall very well that a catalyst for my interest in Islam 11-years ago happened to be the adab (good manners) of a Somali taxi driver who, incidentally, was always smiling. Obviously he had a clear understanding of the hadith that says: “If Allah would guide one person through you to Islam, it is better than the whole world and whatever that’s in it.”

Fitrah: The Predisposition in Humans to Worship One God

Because of all these powerful forces fighting against the Fitrah God chose certain righteous men and revealed to them clearly the right path in life. These men whom we call prophets were sent to help our Fitrah defeat its enemies. All the truths and good practices present in societies around the world today came from their teachings, and if it were not for their teachings, there would be no peace or safety in the world at all.

Responsibility of Pluralism in Islam

For many religions, both Eastern and Western, it was pretty much: “Follow my way or I will send you on the highway to Hell.” Although the belief system and code of conduct of believers was clearly delineated, the rights of unbelievers were often reduced to the right to die. In many cases, it boiled down to “Convert the unbelievers or kill them all.”

In Search of the Prophet

I found my source of adoration for you in the love and respect that the Almighty has proclaimed for you; in the honor that He bestowed upon you; in His confirmation of you as “the ultimate exemplar”; “seal of Prophets” and “mercy unto all existence”. Allah has elevated the very memory of you and has made His boundless love accessible through obedience to you.

The Islamic Jesus

Jesus himself is also venerated throughout the Qur’an. We read that he was born of a virgin, he was “the Messiah,” and he performed amazing miracles. The Qur’an even calls Jesus “the Word of God” — a very powerful term, especially for those who are familiar with the beginning of the Gospel of John.

Mary and Jesus in Islam

Jesus Eesa (Esau, Yeheshua Jesus-Christ) was a Prophet and Messenger as well. He received One Book called the Injeel / Gospel. He was similar to the Messengers and was a Chosen Man who performed Miracles, who brought the message and preached about the Unity of God. He was the only Prophet raised alive and is mentioned in 29 times (more than Prophet Muhammad who was only mentioned 4 times).

9 Lessons from Moses’ Conversation with God

Just like Moses was given the sign of the burning fire, God gives all of us signs in this life. Sometimes it is a verse of the Qur’an that may touch our heart, or a heart penetrating reminder. Sometimes it is just a person we meet who teaches us a lot, or just life circumstances. When God shows us signs, it is up to us to take them.
