Movements in Prayer

Question:

What is the ruling of scratching one’s hands during Prayer (Salah)? What is the prohibited movement in prayer?

Answer:

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright.

Abu Hurairah narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “When you get up to pray, perform ablution perfectly, then face the Qiblah and say: ‘Allahu Akbar’ (Allah is the Most Great). Then recite a convenient portion of the Qur’an; then bow and remain calmly in that position for a moment, then rise up and stand erect; then prostrate and remain calmly in that position for a moment, then rise up and sit calmly, then prostrate and remain calmly in that position for a moment; then do that throughout your prayer.” Agreed Upon)
The hadith indicates that being at ease in the postures is a pillar or essential part of the prayer, and an important obligation, without which prayer is not valid. Whoever pecks out his prayer (by moving too rapidly), there is no prayer for him. Khushu` (proper focus and humility) is the essence of prayer. It is prescribed for the believer to pay attention to that and strive to achieve it.
