The Beautiful Name of Allah: At-Tawwab

How can we live by the Name of Allah At-Tawwab?

The Name of Allah At-Tawwab

Almighty Allah says:

He is Allah, the Creator, the Inventor, the Fashioner; to Him belong the best names. Whatever is in the heavens and earth is exalting Him. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise. (Al-Hashr 59:27)

Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Allah has ninety-nine Names, i.e., one hundred minus one, and whoever believes in their meanings and acts accordingly, will enter Paradise; and Allah is witr (one) and loves ‘the witr‘ (i.e., odd numbers).” (Al-Bukhari)

Dr. Yasir Qadhi continues his commentary on the Beautiful Names and Attributes of Allah Almighty. At-Tawwab is the One who accepts all those who return to Him. And how many of us need to return to Him?

“And it is He who accepts repentance from his servants and pardons misdeeds, and He knows what you do.” (Ash-Shura 42:25)

Despite knowing all that we do, He accepts our turning back to Him. Human beings, even our own parents sometimes, get tired of us. When we have ignored them for a while or have done something they dislike, they may reject us. But Allah Almighty reminds us:

Do they not know that it is Allah who accepts repentance from His servants and receives charities and that it is Allah who is the Accepting of repentance, the Merciful? (At-Tawbah 9:104)

That is why He has named Himself At-Tawwab: so we know that whatever level we are at, He will accept us if we return to Him sincerely. Allah Almighty makes it clear who He has addressed to return to Him:

And turn to Allah in repentance, all of you, O believers, that you might succeed. (An-Nur 24:31)
