Correct Your Recitation (85)

What do you know about the story of Abyssinian King who wanted to destroy the Ka`bah? What do you know about the summer and winter journey of Quraish?

The best way to Correct your Recitation

Almighty Allah says:

…and recite the Qur’an with measured recitation. (Al-Muzzammil 73:4)

In another verse:

Those to whom We have given the Book recite it with its true recital. They [are the ones who] believe in it. (Al-Baqarah 2:121)

Welcome to a new interesting episode of “Correct Your Recitation” series with Sheikh Muhammad Salah and his guests. First Sheikh Isma`il recites the full surahs of Al-Fil (the Elephant), Quraish, and Al-Ma`un (the Small Kindnesses). Surat Al-Fil is the 105th chapter of the Qur’an with five verses. It was revealed at the early era of mission in Makkah. It is a clear example of Allah’s protection for His house (Al-Ka`bah) by destroying the Abyssinian army that came from Yemen with great elephants, through a flock of birds. Surat Quraish is the 106th chapter of the Qur’an with four verses. The surah highlights the great blessings and favors that Allah had bestowed upon the tribe of Quraish who lived in Makkah. It also explains the importance of worshiping Allah alone. It also reflects the punishment for denying the message of the Prophet (peace be upon him). Allah Almighty punished Quraish with famine and fear.

Surat Al-Ma`un is the 107th chapter of the Qur’an with seven verses. Ibn `Abbas noted that part of this chapter was revealed in Makkah and the other part in Madinah. This is because the hypocrites did not exist in Makkah. So, the reference to them could have only occurred in Madinah. It explains the bad consequences of not believing in the life after death.

As usual Dr. Muhammad Salah begins his talk by reflecting on the meanings of the surahs. He narrates story of the people of the elephant. Then, he explains some new rulings of tajweed.
