Beautiful Names of Allah: As-Sittir

How could a Muslim apply the Name of Allah As-Sittir in his worship? Why should a Muslim conceal his sins?

Name of Allah As-Sittir

He is Allah , the Creator, the Inventor, the Fashioner; to Him belong the best names. Whatever is in the heavens and earth is exalting Him. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise. (Al-Hashr 59:27)

Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Allah has ninety-nine Names, i.e., one hundred minus one, and whoever believes in their meanings and acts accordingly, will enter Paradise; and Allah is witr (one) and loves ‘the witr‘ (i.e., odd numbers).” (Al-Bukhari)

Dr. Yasir Qadhi continues his commentary on the Beautiful Names and Attributes of Allah Almighty. The Name As-Sittir is not found in the Quran but it is mentioned in the Sunnah.

It was narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, is forbearing, modest and concealing, and He loves modesty and concealment. When any one of you performs ghusl, let him conceal himself.” (An-Nasa’i)

Linguistically, As-Sittir (derived from the root word sitr) is one who conceals something. It means the one who veils a million scandals, as well as the greatest sins.
